Penthouse 4301

@ WAIHONUA

Some people defend their privacy by barricading themselves in homes behind tall, stone walls…like those of a medieval castle…or a prison.

Other people prefer their privacy with a big scoop of sweeping, breathtaking, 180º, sun-drenched, salt-air, unobstructed…freedom.

Which are you?

All Art – Zero Artifice

Let’s be honest, if you are not a fan of tropical sun and 12 hours of bright daylight, what on earth are you thinking living in Hawaii? But, truth be told, we are hardwired to appreciate and thrive in the cycles of sunlight that occur with great regularity this close to the equator. The architects of Penthouse 4301 understood this and did everything but remove walls to give you full access to the benefits of daylight. When you visit, take a moment to just sit still and watch the shadowplay inside your new home as the sun comes streaming in. We imagine that, in no time, the movement of the window frame shadows will work for you like a sundial, and underneath it all, an unmistakable feeling of wellness will fill your life here as you naturally slide into the cycles of light and dark reflected all around you.

Circadian Living

Doctors advise us to synchronize our body’s master clock, the suprachiasmatic nucleus, to external environmental cues by obtaining bright outdoor light exposure earlier in the day. Uh, done.

Sustainable Glazing

Low-emission glass lets in visible light but keeps air conditioning bills down by blocking rays that heat the air, bleach floor coverings, and damage artwork.

Craftsmanship

You’ll find precision from floor to 10-ft ceiling. When we see a perfectly mitered floor board sitting precisely high enough above the wood floor to allow for expansion, it’s evidence that whomever installed both was a real pro.

The Total Package

Hawaii is generally charming but the trend of skipping the dishwasher…not so much. No worries, though, this Bosch® dishwasher rounds out your complete appliance package.

Hardwoods

From the custom front door to the common area of the home, you’ll find matte-finished walnut hardwood flooring by design. The interior architect’s defined goal was “sophisticated, but not overdone.” Mission accomplished.

Top-Shelf Appliances

You know the names Wolf® and Bosch®. They’re here. What more can we say? Wait, the 1/2 grill cooktop is a recent Wolf® upgrade. Enjoy.

Premium Wall-to-Wall

In several intelligent places (always away from even mild acids) you’ll find marble. This handsome devil is in what we’ve nicknamed the “His Owner’s Suite” bath. It’s subtly echoed in the shower niches.

Porcelain Decking

In addition to offering greater flexibility in design choices, porcelain tiles are harder than ceramic tile making them more resistant to cracking and discoloring/staining.

Sturdy Stone

Strong enough to support the underhung porcelain sink basins in the baths [pictured here], yet beautiful enough in polished granite to be included in a modern kitchen, stone countertops are the only countertops found here.

Fine Fixtures

Do you like pretty things? We do too. We found the unique Kohler® fixtures scattered appropriately around the home very memorable because of their unexpected, distinctive, modern qualities.

Clean Living

If cleanliness is truly next to godliness, then bidet-enabled toilets must be some sort of throne.

Climate Control

Dual central air conditioning with individual bedroom controls mean that each person sleeps in his/her ideal climate. We found the touch screen controls to be very intuitive to use.

Dimmable Lighting

Many of the lighting fixtures are on dimmers, which is heavenly enough, but even the sunlight is dimmable here. Floor to ceiling power shades on all windows reduce incoming light at the touch of a button.

Media Room

Window shades not dark enough for a midday “Netlix®-n-chill?” Head to Waihonua’s media room where you can stream movies or TV. You can probably even create a death-by-PowerPoint® presentation and practice your next TEDx talk.

Jetted Hot Tub

Time to heat things up and melt away tension? Head to the pool deck’s garden grove and slip into the 10-person jetted hot tub.

Wolf® Grills

In each of 5 rec deck pavilions, you’ll find party-sized professional Wolf® grills. Now you’re cooking with gas!

Resort-like Pool

Lounge near, over, or in the beach-inspired, , heated, infinity-edged pool. Its just the right depth for kids to play and athletes to swim laps.

Rock-n-Roll

Seriously, when is the last time you found rocking chairs on an amenities deck? Heck, when was the first time? We bet it will be here. We also bet you’re gonna freakin’ love ’em. We did.

Pet Friendly

This lawn never yellows or dies. It’s so drought-resistant it’s plastic. A great place to let the little ones run and play. And, no, pets aren’t allowed here, so thank goodness you’re virtually next door to Kolowalu Park.

New Friends

New to the islands? Afraid you’ll miss all of the old friendly faces? You probably will, but these little guys will alleviate it a bit because they smile at you whenever they see you.

Owner’s Bath

We’re still surprised by how rarely today’s master baths have walk in shower rooms. There is just something that feels very extravagant about these glass-walled rooms large enough for shower chairs or multiple occupants. This one is no exception.

Elevated Storage

Condominium living isn’t known for its expansive storage so to find the beautiful use of space, for example, the mahogany-stained solid wood & glass kitchen cabinet design, here is a treat. Even your side-by-side parking has a storage room nearly the size of your master closet.

Health is Happiness

Not standard with Waihonua’s build is this water purification system installed by the sellers of this updated and upgraded property. We get it. Water is the stuff of life…when it’s clean.

A Place for Everything

The walk-in owner’s suite closet is a dream. The organization system was added by the sellers and, did you ever see Carrie’s closet in Sex & The City, The Movie? Yeah, close to that.

Bottles Galore

In Hawaii, everything is an import. So, collecting great wines is necessarily elevated from passion to zeal. If you have it, you’ll appreciate being able to care properly for your treasures.

Life on the Upper East Side of  “The Village”

Howard Hughes Corporation, the developer of Ward Village, has you in mind.

“While the mid-20th century bore witness to the rise of the suburbs and an exodus of people leaving urban life behind, this past decade has shown that many of us have helped turn back the tide and favor city life. As droves of us move back into high rises, walk-ups, and apartments, our urban hubs are changing to reflect our needs and are becoming more efficient by offering more conveniences, all the while utilizing less space. At the cornerstone of our changing urban environment is the concept of walkability. As its name implies, a walkable city is, above all, a convenient city where residents can work, shop, dine, and play—all without relying on a car to get them to their destination. Here at Ward Village, creating a walkable community is at the very fabric of our identity.”
